You people are so beautiful.

"Mrs. Miniver", 1942

I have read and re-read the entries for the giveaway of Mrs. Miniver, and I am just marveling at the sheer goodness of the dreams submitted here. The range of compassion and aspiration–from farming to homemaking to artistic initiatives to the mastery of musical instruments–is really astounding, and the particularities of your visions are nothing short of breathtaking. (If you want to be inspired, or to be reminded of the exquisite uniqueness of individuals, then have a look at the comments section.) Thank you all for your candor in sharing such treasures of your hearts. As I’ve perused them, I’ve felt like I was looking into a box of precious jewels.

And I am pleased to announce that the winner of the drawing is Erin Henry, whose dream is to adopt a child.

(Erin, if you will send me your address via my secure contact form or via email to laniersbooks AT gmail DOT com, I will package your book and drop it in the mail post-haste.)

Thank you, all, again, for joining the celebration with such generosity and joy. I am still so dumbstruck that you take the time to stop in and read here, much less leave such gracious words of your own. I wish that I were able to respond personally to each one of your comments, but I do want you to know how much I appreciate them.

God bless!

  1. Erin, I second the congratulations. Enjoy!

Lanier, what fun! I had such fun checking back each day to read everyone’s comments, and the suspense of the drawing was great fun, too. And, like you, as the dreams spun out, farther and farther, I was suddenly touched by the sheer goodness of the hearts of all who were writing, and wondered how it can be that the entire world is not a much better place when there are people like this alive.

I feel sure that all of you will be in the “new heaven and new earth,” and I want to be there with you…and hopefully visit your lovely cafes, bookshops, recitals, and cottages. (Maybe you’ll come see me at my tent on the seashore, and we’ll dig clams…)

Maria, I thought exactly the same thing. 🙂

  2. I’ve visited your blog many times but this is the first time I’ve left a comment.

I just want to say how much I enjoy your posts and as a lover of books, especially old books, your blog is a wealth of information and enjoyment. You have such a gentle, peaceful spirit and visiting here makes me wish you had an actual bookstore so I could talk to you and others who leave such wonderful comments here. I have a mental picture of a book shop in an old restored building with shelves piled full of old books, classical music playing in the background and a few chairs and tables with teacups resting on them…oh wait, that’s my dream! :o)

Sorry to be so long-winded but I did want to say how much a enjoy your blog. I also wanted to share Laniers Books with others so posted a little info about your blog at mine. I like to share when I find great places to visit online.

    Blessings,
    Sandra

Thanks, also, for the link. I really appreciate it! 🙂

  3. Congratulations, Erin! And thank you again, Lanier, for providing this place of respite on the internet. What a wonderful thing it is to come here time and again and see the love of Christ shining through. 🙂

  4. Hi Lanier,
