Hello, I’m Lanier.

And I am so happy you are here! If this site were a house, I would invite you in for a cup of tea, or a lemonade on the porch. As it is, I want to extend the warmest of welcomes, in the hope that you will make yourself right at home—especially if you love books, gardens, and the poetry of everyday life.

As a writer, I like to push against assumptions a bit, with a holy curiosity over the mystery and paradox and parable with which our days are thronged. Like Elizabeth Barrett Browning, I believe that “earth’s crammed with Heaven,” and that the most quotidian things may be charged with eternal meaning, if only we have the eyes to see. I love to look for that meaning, amid the pots and pans, garden trowels, linens and laundry—and, yes, the written words—of my ordinary life.

I do hope you will join me.

Glad and Golden Hours

available now from Rabbit Room Press

Glad and Golden Hours is a companion for Advent and Christmastide—I like to call it a memoir with recipes and crafts. Illustrated by Jennifer Trafton, it is a full-color invitation to delight in the true joys of Christmas and to refresh our wonder at the miracle of God-with-us.
