  1. Congratulations, Elyce! I already own a copy of “The Art of Tasha Tudor” so I didn’t enter the giveaway, but I will leave my comment here. First, Lanier, I have been reading your blog since 2006 or so — I thought I was one of your oldest readers, but a quick perusal of the other comment thread shows that you have many loyal readers from your early days! This is such a lovely blog to return to again and again! Thank you for sharing so much in this space.

My absolute favorite Christmas book is “The Box of Delights,” by John Masefield. The New York Review published a nice, unabridged, hardcover copy that is still available on Amazon. It is a delightful little children’s fantasy; I love to read it year after year. This year is very special because I’m reading it aloud to my six-year-old son, Edmund, for the first time, and he is enjoying it as much as I am. Sitting down to read a chapter aloud to him during his sisters’ naptime has been a highlight of my Advent season.

  2. Hello Lanier,

I hope you won’t mind an ‘out of nowhere’ comment.

I was reminded of the whimsy of this photograph of yours (above) and your love of Tasha Tudor when I came across a very sweet (if expensive) reproduction of a Victorian Dresden Ornament Wreath today. Maybe you already know about them or even have one, but I’d never heard of them before and was charmed. I love the possibility there is for using it seasonally, not just at Christmas, according to the flowers/greenery available. I’m not sure if your affection for Tasha Tudor is primarily for her spirit, her aesthetic, or both, but thought I would pass it along as a kind of virtual window shopping just on the off chance you might love it.

I found some less expensive ones on line but none of them seem to capture Tasha Tudor’s sweet creatures in quite the same way.

    1. Judy, I never mind an ‘out of nowhere’ comment. 😉
And that Dresden wreath is simply exquisite. I’d never heard of them, but you’re right–Tasha would have loved it, as well. 🙂
